Introduction to Migration Law Seminar for Lawyers

From 19 November 2017, all lawyers in Australia will be able to undertake work in migration law including dealing with all aspects of visas such as visa applications, visa cancellations, appeals to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and anything to do with employers and engaging overseas staff.

This  seminar will be conducted by Lorenzo Boccabella, Barrister-at-law and migration specialist. You will receive 10 legal CPD points in three areas – Substantial law, Professional Skills and Ethics.This seminar is aimed at lawyers hence we cover migration law issues from the perspective of a lawyer. At the visa level we look at the twists and turns of what can be done covering also transitional issues which are quite tricky. At the tribunal and judicial review level we cover the law from a heavyweight perspective, looking especially at recent cases and strategy. There is a session on submission writing to meet the professional skill strand.

It is a whole new field of law and potentially a new set of clients. However it is not an area one can easily parachute into.

• The visa system

• Employer sponsorship

• Specific visas such as partner visas, skilled visas and work visas

• Compliance issues with Immigration

• Merit review to the Administrative Appeals

• Judicial review in the federal court system plus appeals to the High Court
