Migration Law Workshop/Webinar
16:30 - 18:30: A 2 hour intensive Workshop on Character Issues in Migration Law
This workshop is about visa cancellations based on criminal convictions - to be run in person at Level 19, Inns of Court, Brisbane and simultaneously as a webinar. More than ever there is an increasing overlap between criminal law and migration law.
Close to 10,000 visas have been cancelled by the Department of Home Affairs as a result of criminal convictions based on a custodial sentence of one year or more. There is a complex regime on this process, involving a combination of personal decisions by the Ministers, mandatory visa cancellations by case officers and an appeal process through the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the Federal Courts.
